Search engine optimization (SEO) is an internet marketing strategy which aims to improve the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Through search engine optimization, a website’s ranking is improved and so more visitors it will be generated to the website. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

Optimizing a website principally involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevancy to specific keywords and to get rid of barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term “search engine friendly” may be employed to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems and shopping carts that are easy to optimize.

Search engine optimization commenced in the mid-1990s, as the first search engines were cataloging the early Web. At first, all a webmaster needed to do was submit the address of a page, or URL, to the various engines which would send out a spider to “crawl” that page, extract links to other pages from it, and return information found on the page to be indexed.

Site owners started to recognize the value of having their sites highly ranked and visible in search engine results. Early versions of search algorithms relied on webmaster-provided information such as the keyword meta tag, or index files in engines. Meta tags provide a guide to each page’s content.

Since the success and popularity of a search engine is determined by its ability to produce the most relevant results to any given search, allowing those results to be false would turn users to find other search sources. Search engines responded by developing more complex ranking algorithms, taking into account additional factors that were more difficult for webmasters to manipulate.

By 2007, search engines had merged a wide range of unrevealed factors in their ranking algorithms to cut down the impact of link manipulation. SEO practitioners may also analyze patents held by various search engines to gain insight into the algorithms.

It is therefore important to study the tools and research on the effective strategies you may want to implement if you want to make money online.

I have been working in the web the industry coming up on almost ten years now! Since I’ve started I’ve seen many fads rise and fall. I’ve built sites in everything from plain old HTML to XHTML to DHTML and every content management system you can imagine.

With all of this experience I have noticed that while the fads do indeed come and go some things have been around from the beginning and will likely BE around as long as I am working on web sites. Three of these things includeSEO (search engine optimization), converting site visitors into your desired result, and they never ending focus on web standards. Indeed, there are lots of other things that you can work on and focus on when building a web site, by these are three things that I have noticed pop up a on almost every single the project.

Search engine optimization (SEO) seems to change on an almost daily basis. Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft are always tweaking their algorithms to return better results for search terms. While many things will change, some of the more consistent aspects of SEO include focusing on the keywords you use in your title tags as well as the keywords you use in your URLs. While meta key words and descriptions are very much a thing of the past, the hottest fads right now include social media, social networking, and blogging.

No matter the industry or business you are in, conversions are always a focused. Whether you want to convert someone walking into your front door into a paying customer or someone visiting your web site into a frequent commenter, you must always be thinking about your desired outcome when designing and building a web site. We have been doing this since we started building web sites. Bloggers often want to create an active community, e-commerce sites want to convert visitors and customers, and media sites want visitors to stick around and read other content. When designing a site, keep your end goal in mind, and developed your user interface around that goal.

Web standards is something that has always been important to me. Web standards are important because they ensure that your website will show up in a consistent format across many different types of browsers. From Internet Explorer to Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Flock – there are now many many different browsers to choose from. Ensuring that your site shows up in the same way on heat a browser is very important. Additionally, search engines really love code that is standard compliant. You tend to rank higher if you have a standard compliant and fast loading web site.

So while many fads and trends may come and go, there are obviously some things on the web that are indeed here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. Search engine optimization will always be important because search engines drive a ton of traffic. Conversions will always be important because you always want to turn a visitor into something else. And, standards compliance will always be important because the web is becoming more complex and standards help provide and place guidelines around this.

A search engine, such as Google and Yahoo, are tools that allow users to find information on the World Wide Web by searching with a specially designed tool. The results of a search are organized into a list which includes web pages, information about them and links to them. In some cases, it includes images. Search engines are operated algorithmically in conjunction with human editing.

A search engine uses web crawling, indexing and searching in that order to provide the most accurate results related to a particular search. Search engines work by storing information about millions of web pages that can be retrieved at the request of its user. The web crawler, or “spider,” is used as an automated web browser. It follows every appropriate visible link. The web crawler analyzes the contents of each link to determine how the pages should be indexed.

Words found inside the pages are extracted from the description and allocated appropriate meta tags. Meta tags are also taken from contents the webpage itself to establish its relevance. Data from the sites is collected, indexed and stored to be retrieved when it’s needed.

The major search engines, such as Google amass all, or a miniature portion of the source page, or “cache”, in addition to information the web page offers. The search engine, AltaVista stores every word from every page. Storing the cache helps the search engine filter more easily because web pages are updated constantly. Google’s technique of indexing relieves the “linkrot” and allows users to be sure that the content they find in their search results will be up to date and utilizable. The cache can be helpful when obsolete information is removed. The cache allows users to find and recover information from archived sources.

Search engine users normally input a keyword or key phrase into the search field. The engine will search for their particular keyword and key phrase on the World Wide Web. The search engine index will provide an organized list of results with the best matched web pages. A short summary of each webpage describing the contents is provided along with the list.

All the search engines look to enhance their performance by ensuring that they deliver exactly what the user looks for. The problem is accentuated by the abundance of web pages containing the keyword or the keyword phrase. However, by using web crawlers and indexing, search engines manage to filter all the sites that are irrelevant to the search being made even if it has the keywords. They have created their own unique processes for examining different web pages and their contents.

Increasingly search engines have been implementing a page ranking system in which each page’s descriptions, keywords and content are scanned for relevancy to the inputted keyword and their index. Pages with higher ranks get seen more often at the top of the list. If a site is linked to a high ranking website that site receives a vote that increases its ranking.

When designing a new web site, there is a great deal to consider before you begin. Have you chosen a good niche? Have you organized your content in a way that is search engine friendly? Do you have a URL that makes it easy for search engine spiders to know what your website is all about?

Search engine optimization of web site design is easy if you know what to do. Even if you have done all of the planning and preparation that you can to guarantee a functional website, you must consider the needs of search engine spiders and SEO.

The beginning step is to build your web site in html and use cascading style sheets (CSS). Style sheets keeps your code to a minimum and helps to provide a consistent look across your website. The design of your site needs to be clean while providing easy to use navigation.

Make sure that each of your web pages uses unique meta tags. Your meta tags should include the site keywords you are optimizing for. The meta tags signal the search engine spiders as to the type of content contained within your site. Your web site template should always place your keyword phrase at the top of your page and end of your page.
